Bid to rob Securicor van fails

THREE men brandishing baseball bats and wearing balaclavas threatened a security guard while he was loading his Securicor van.

The attempted robbery occurred in the car park of the Booker Cash and Carry store in Broad Oak Road, Canterbury, while takings were being collected.

As the last bag was loaded into the van the guard was threatened. The three men fled empty-handed in an L registration Vauxhall Astra when they realised there was no way of accessing the money.

No cash was stolen and no one was injured during the attempted robbery last Friday at about 5pm. The car is believed to have headed towards Canterbury.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Det Sgt Curtis Hogben on 01227 762055 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
