Canterbury Rugby Club chairman Giles Hilton says victory against Ampthill on Saturday would see the city club take a giant stride towards winning the National League 3 London & South East title.

Second-placed Ampthill visit Merton Lane this weekend and the club hope a crowd of almost 500 will get behind Andy Pratt’s side as they look to make it 22 wins out of 22.

With five games remaining, Hilton (pictured) believes seven more points will seal the title.

He said: "A total of 110 points will wrap things up and Saturday could see us take a giant stride toward that but we have to be on our guard as Ampthill posed a real threat to us earlier in the season."

A guaranteed 200 are already booked in for pre-match lunch on Saturday and similar numbers are expected through the gates on top of that to make for a lively atmosphere.

Hilton added: "The weather forecast is promising for Saturday and it’s a 3pm kick-off for what should be a high-quality game."
