Biker dies in crash with car on the Old Thanet Way

A man was killed in a crash between a motorbike and a car on the Old Thanet Way at Herne Bay on Thursday night.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s from Deal, died after his Kawasaki 600 collided with a Seat on the junction with Flamingo Drive at 6.20pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene but could not save the man's life.

The two occupants of the Seat, a Herne Bay woman and a child passenger, picked up minor injuries.

At its height, seven police cars, three ambulances and two fire engines were at the crash site dealing with the emergency.

Det Sgt Miles Bishop from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The motorcyclist was travelling along the Old Thanet Way towards Whitstable and the Seat was turning out of Flamingo Drive when the accident happened.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or events leading up to it to call us.

"We would particularly like to hear from the driver of a red Ford Fiesta who, although we don’t believe was involved in the collision in any way, may be an important witness."

The road was closed until 1.04am this morning, while the crash was investigated and the vehicles were recovered.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit appeal line on 01622 798538.

Tributes to the man can be left below.
