Bridge fall threat closes A2

The A2 outside Canterbury was closed in both directions this morning after a man threatened to kill himself by jumping on to it.

Police were called at 3.25 after concerns about the welfare of a 24-year-old man Canterbury man on the A28 Thanington Road bridge.

Officers shut the A2 between Bridge and Harbledown and the A28 and diverted traffic away from while they spoke to the man.

At 6.40am he was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and taken to St Martin's Hospital in Canterbury.

Roads were then reopened.
