Call for extras to star in Canterbury bare-knuckle fight for gangster film coming to Amazon Prime

Filmmakers are searching for budding actors to star in a bare-knuckle brawl for a gangster film hoping to “put Kent on the map”.

A crowd of extras are wanted for the shoot at a secret location in Canterbury ahead of the project’s debut on streaming platforms - including Amazon Prime - later this year.

Folkestone resident Luke Mayers is directing his second feature with Ryan Hill, who also stars in the ambitious project.

The plasterer saved up £10,000 to create his debut On Top, which premiered on streaming services last year.

Mr Mayers’ new venture is a “crime, comedy and action film rolled into one”.

And one of the tense scenes will be shot in the city on Saturday, with filmmakers searching for extras.

“It is a bare-knuckle boxing fight,” the 35-year-old said.

“There will be a crowd of people surrounding them to make it look real. We are doing it in a big barn at a farmyard in Canterbury.

“I do not need any kids, so we need men aged 20 years and older.”

Anyone interested should contact @ontopfilm on Instagram or On Top Film on Facebook.

Mr Mayers says the film is about two brothers whose father went missing when they were teenagers.

“The brothers grow up doing building work but struggle to pay their bills,” he added.

“They fight in a pub, in which they do very well, and an onlooker sees potential in them and offers them a job.

“The brothers are told to see a guy about the job opportunity, who is the head of a gangster firm.

“They know something is not quite right but they proceed with it anyway as the money is good.

“But they discover the gangster firm had their father killed, so they go for revenge.”

Mr Mayers, whose interest in cinema was sparked after a spell as an extra himself, says the film looks “very expensive”, considering it is being shot on a small budget.

The crew has filmed across the county, including in Folkestone, Herne Bay, Canterbury, Ashford and Medway.

“It is such a special film and it is going to put Kent on the map when it is finished,” he said.

The project will premier in August and it is hoped to hit streaming services in September.
