Canterbury Men begin life back in Premier Division hockey with a win over Brooklands MU, while the Ladies also triumph

Canterbury marked their return to the top flight of English hockey with a 3-2 victory at Brooklands MU as the Men's Premier Division season got under way at the weekend.

But it was the Manchester side who took the lead through an 11th-minute penalty corner by Peter Flanagan.

Martin Sutherland and Tom Butt then put Canterbury in front and although Richard Bond equalised for Brooklands, Michael Farrer (pictured) struck Canterbury's winner from a 47th-minute penalty corner.

Canterbury Ladies won a high-scoring game 7-5 against Brooklands Poyntons in their opening match of the Women's Premier Division season at Polo Farm.

Their goals came from Natasha Brennan (2), Hayley Brown, Susannah Townsend, Mel Clewlow, Jen Wilson and Sarah Kerly.
