Canterbury made it four straight wins in National League 3 London & South East with victory at Bracknell on Saturday.

They won 33-14, but for the first time this season they failed to claim a bonus point, scoring just three tries. With rivals Dorking overwhelming Gravesend, Canterbury dropped to second in the table.

Wim Baars touched down to give the city side an excellent start, but Bracknell replied soon after, and it was left to Tom Best to exploit the growing pile of penalties the home side conceded to earn a 16-7 half-time lead.

He kicked three penalties to add to his earlier conversion and it was not until the last quarter of the game that Canterbury were able to find their try-scoring touch again. By that time Best had kicked a fourth penalty.

Best was also instrumental in setting up and converting his side's second try, scored by Juan Del Val. Canterbury now went bonus hunting and four minutes from time, a catch and drive paid off with a try for Peter Kelly, converted by Will Hilton.

The anxiety to find one more decisive score ended in a dropped pass and a kick and chase converted try by Bracknell in the dying seconds.
