A late try bv Worthing No.8 Semisi Taulava condemned Canterbury to an 18-16 home defeat in National League 2 South on Saturday.

Injuries to Pat Sykes and Rob Keir as well as a yellow card for replacement Steve Goode added to their problems, and the City club now haven't won at home since November.

Sykes breakway try, running 70 metres to the line, gave them an 11-5 lead at half-time, but his departure and Goode's absence left the home side short-handed.

Worthing responded with a penalty, and then with numbers even, added a converted try to lead 13-11.

Another replacement Matt Sheen's fine finish restored Canterbury's lead, but there was a sting in Worthing's tail as Taulava pounced two minutes from the end, following a five-metre scrum.

The conversion attempt was charged down, but there was no time for the home side to respond, leaving them frustrated by the result, and disappointed by their first half performance.
