Canterbury are now nine points clear at the top of National 3 London & South East after maintaining their 100% record with a 49-8 win against struggling Luton.

Defeat for second-placed Tonbridge Juddians at the hands of Dorking means the city club are now in control of the title race with the season almost at halfway.

Wim Baars ran in two tries for the home side although Luton battled hard to stay in the game with a try and drop goal of their own. Martyn Beaumont sent his former Dover team-mate Ricky Mackintosh away to extend Canterbury’s lead to 17-8 at the interval.

Three tries in as many minutes just after the break killed off the visitors as George Micans, Juan Del Val and Nik Van Mol all crossed to score.

Beaumont and Micans scored late in the game and Baars completed his hat-trick to add further gloss to Canterbury’s 12th consecutive win. On Saturday, they visit CS Rugby 1863.
