After victories in their first two games Canterbury were dealt a cold blast of reality by a Jersey side who controlled the match from start to finish.

Canterbury head coach Danny Vaughan (pictured) admitted that the rugby was on a different plain to their two previous National 2 South matches this season.

It was to his players’ credit that, out muscled as they were, Jersey were limited to four tries, the last scored in final seconds.

They led 18-6 at half-time – Canterbury’s points came from a Tom Best penalty and a Gert De Kock dropped goal – but by the time No.8 Wim Baars scored their only try, Canterbury were chasing a lost cause, Jersey having coasted comfortably ahead with a third penalty and a converted try. Best added a second late penalty.
