CANTERBURY carnival queen Rebecca Hoadley has resigned from the post just four months after being crowned.

Christine Samson, a member of the carnival committee, said the 16-year-old's decision to step down had been made for "personal reasons."

Deputy queen, Hayley Hogbin, 18, has stepped in to take over the Miss Canterbury crown and sash and represent the city at events across Kent.

Hayley, who works for the Master John dry cleaning business in the city, will be supported by princesses, Kerry Sargeant, 16 and Kayleigh Wall, 15.

Mrs Samson said: "Hayley is very experienced having done the job the previous year and we are delighted she has been able to take on the task once again."

The court will lead the procession at Canterbury Carnival on Saturday, June 19.
