Canterbury's 25-12 defeat at Clifton means Saturday's home clash with Westcombe Park on the last day of the season will be a fight for National League 2 South existence for both sides.

The city club can have no complaints after a disappointing performance at Clifton, which fell well below the form shown in their two previous games.

Fumbles, forward passes and missed tackles were all too much in evidence, particularly in in a poor first half which left Canterbury chasing the game.
Clifton, exploiting the breeze, dominated and by half-time were 20 points clear.

It was testament to Canterbury’s spirit that they came out fighting in the second half and an early try for Rob Keir, converted by Will Hilton, brought hope of salvaging something.

A second try from Jim Green left them around 12 minutes to get something from the game, but desperation crept in and the city side paid the price by handing a last-minute try to the home side.
