A 24-year-old Faversham man has been sentenced to 5 years for kidnap and making threats to kill.

Floyd Clifton of Beckett Street was last month found guilty of kidnap, two counts of false imprisonment and two of threats to kill following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

On Tuesday (July 12) he was given a five year jail term for the kidnap and a four year jail term for the threats to kill, which will run concurrently.

Clifton will also have to serve an extra two years on licence as an extension to his sentence.

The offences were committed in two separate incidents.

In the first, Clifton went to the home of Jason Waldron and his partner Tracey West on June 13, threatened to shoot them and petrol bomb their home.

Clifton then forced Mr Waldron sit in his car while he drove him around Faversham and then on to Herne Bay.

The second incident involved the false imprisonment by Clifton of his former girlfriend Linda McCollum and her 16-year-old daughter Megan.

Clifton broke into their home, took away the two women’s mobile phones and stopped either of them from leaving the room for several hours despite constant begging from Linda McCollum to let them go.

Judge Jeremy Gold QC told Clifton that his behaviour had deeply affected his victims.

He said: “Jason Waldron was significantly affected by the terrifying incident that night and the experiences of Linda and Megan McCollum were highly intimidating and frightening.

"When considering dangerousness, Clifton does present a risk to the public and should be considered a dangerous offender.”

Throughout the police investigation, Clifton denied all five offences.

Investigating officer PC Gary Stamp said: “His denial meant all four of his victims had to endure a trial.

“I hope his sentence serves as a warning to people that violent behaviour will not be tolerated.”
