They battled the fire for 45 minutes before extinguishing the flames.

No casualties were reported.

Following the blaze, a fire service spokesman has issued a series of safety tips to those wishing to light a bonfire.

He said: "Build your bonfire well clear of buildings, garden sheds, outdoor structures, fences, hedges and over-hanging branches.

"Keep bonfires to a manageable size and evenly built, so they collapse inwards as they burn.

"Never leave burning bonfires unattended.

"Make sure the fire is out before leaving."
