A Canterbury nurse arrested after a tip-off from officers involved in the cannibal plot trial of a US policeman is to go on trial accused of administering poison to a woman two years ago.

Dale Bolinger faces 11 allegations - including attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl - and has been told his trial is expected to begin next April.

The 57-year-old is also charged with two counts of possessing indecent images of children - four at the most serious level five and five at level one - in February this year.

The former nurse is also facing seven other charges of publishing an obscene article, allegedly committed between November 2011 and September last year.

Bolinger, formerly of Davidson Road, Canterbury, made his first appearance at Canterbury Crown Court today and spoke only to confirm his name.

He was granted bail until February next year when he will be expected to formerly enter his pleas to the charges.

Bolinger's bail conditions included a ban on using a computer other than at a public library.

He was questioned by Kent Police in February after the force received a tip-off from FBI officials involved in the cannibal plot trial of American policeman Gilberto Valle.

The policeman was later convicted of plotting to kidnap, cook and eat women - including his own wife.
