Delays for rush hour motorists after two accidents on M2

Two accidents on the M2 caused rush hour delays for motorists on Wednesday morning.

Tailbacks mounted between junctions six and five, between Faversham and Sittingbourne, following a collision on the London-bound carriageway around 7.15am.

Two vehicles were involved, a foreign-registered lorry and a van. The van left the motorway and landed in bushes.

The driver was freed by firemen after the top was cut off the van. His injuries were not thought to be life threatening as the Kent Air Ambulance was stood down after initially being called to the scene.

As emergency services dealt with the first accident, another collision involving four vehicles occurred on the coastbound carriageway. Tailbacks stretched as far as junction four for Gillingham.

Nobody is thought to have suffered any serious injuries and the cause of both collisions is not yet known.
