Lisa Dobriskey followed up her Fifth Avenue Mile success a fortnight ago with victory in the Bupa Great North Mile on Tyneside.

The Kent athlete had to overcome illness to retain her title on Saturday in a time of 4hr37min08sec after staging a strong finish to see off the challenge of Ukrainian Anna Mischenko and Slovenian Sonia Roman.

"I was planning to go for it from the beginning, but I had a cold so sat back and kept something in reserve," said the Ashford middle distance runner.

"When you are warming up sometimes you feel worse than you actually are, and I actually felt great in the race."
