Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says the chance to beat local rivals Maidstone and take their position at the top of Ryman League Division 1 South is all the incentive they need in the Kent derby on Saturday.

Unbeaten in eight games in all competitions Turner’s side sit fourth in the table and two points off the top ahead of the visit of the Stones – over whom they completed a league double last season.

Turner (pictured) said: "I’m sure (Stones boss) Jay Saunders will be reminding his players about that in the dressing room before the game and it’s not going to make things any easier for us.

"Maidstone are going to be the standout team in our division this season, particularly in terms of their resources and they already have a strong squad.

"We are much the underdogs off the field but our players have all got experience of playing big games at higher levels and a few of them have played for Maidstone in the past. I’m sure they’ll all be up for it."

Turner added: "There is a fantastic incentive for us to go for the win which would take us above them and possibly be sitting top of the league on Saturday night.

"It’s important to enjoy the day – they got 1,600 in midweek and hopefully a lot of them will come along on Saturday and we’ll have a big crowd."

Toby Ashmore misses out due to a personal engagement but former Stones striker Danny Hockton should be fit to play some part in the game.
