Teenage girl’s £200 Trapstar coat stolen in robbery in Fordwich, near Canterbury

A teenage girl was robbed of a £200 coat by a boy she feared was carrying a knife.

The 14-year-old, who has asked not to be named, suffered panic attacks after being targeted in a field in Fordwich, near Sturry.

She had arranged to meet someone she believed to be a friend, but it soon transpired he had an ulterior motive.

The boy had asked to meet at Marlow Meadows, a remote site near the miniature railway at Brett’s Quarries.

“I met up with someone who was meant to be my mate, but it turns out they weren’t,” said the girl, who is from London.

“In the morning, he said make sure you wear your Trapstar coat. The coat is about £200.

“I wore it and I didn’t think anything of it.

“When I got there he started grabbing at my coat, saying ‘take it off’.

“I could see in his trousers he had a knife on him so I handed my coat over and it had my portable charger, my bank cards, train tickets and money in it.”

The boy left in a car before the victim, after waiting to see if he would return, called police.

“I was in the field; I didn’t know what to do or where I was because I’m from London,” she said.

“I was shaking. I had three panic attacks in this field.

“I gave the police his details and they said there is nothing they can do because I didn’t get the car reg.

“They told me to get to the nearest police station, but I had no money so I couldn’t. I couldn’t breathe.

“I called my mum and she told me to get near the train station so she could come and get me.”

The girl then says there was some confusion over who would be investigating the robbery.

“Kent Police rang me back and told me when I get home I need to tell Met Police,” she said.

“Met Police then said ‘I don’t know why Kent Police told you to ring us because it happened in Kent, it is up to them’.

“I was supposed to have a call from victim support but I haven’t had anything.”

Kent Police confirmed they were called about the incident shortly before 2pm on Monday, April 17.

“It was reported that around 40 minutes earlier a teenage boy had taken the coat of a 14-year-old girl in Sturry before leaving the area, reportedly travelling to London.

“The two children are known to each other.

“Due to the amount of time which had elapsed, and the boy no longer being present, the call was not prioritised for attendance based on the level of threat, risk and harm reported.

“Details of the incident were taken for investigation and the victim was advised to attend Canterbury Police Station if she had concerns for her safety.

“Local officers are investigating the circumstances and have been in contact with the victim.”
