Girls will have their say on youth services

Getting ready to stamp their mark on young people’s services are four new members of the Kent Youth County Council.

Eleanor Davies, 16, who attends Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, and Esmé Greenan, 17, who attends Barton Court Grammar School, were both voted in as elected members.

Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School pupils Olivia Ruston, 12, from Canterbury, and Kim Roberts, 12, from Greenhill, were voted in as deputy elected members.

In total, 77 prospective candidates canvassed for the 48 seats available on the non-party political organisation.

More than 30,500 votes were cast at 150 polling stations across Kent.

Anyone aged 11 to 18 years, living within KCC boundaries, was entitled to vote or stand for election.

Members are elected for a year with the option of continuing for a second year to support newly elected members, and work closely with officers and elected members of Kent County Council, informing them of young people’s issues and concerns.
