Kent's Georgina Harland again missed out on qualification for the Beijing Olympics after a seventh-placed finish in the latest pentathlon World Cup event.

The Olympic bronze medallist from Athens four years ago is yet to achieve the qualifying standard for this year’s games but had hoped to put in a good show in the third round of the World Cup competition at Millfield School in Street, Somerset.

Harland, from Canterbury, was looking to emulate her victory in the same event in 2007 but despite a storming display in her strongest discipline, the 3km run, she could only climb to seventh after lying 15th after the first four disciplines.

Harland will now turn her attention to gaining the Olympic qualification mark via the World Championships in Hungary at the end of May.
