Horse stranded in water in Westmarsh, near Canterbury rescued by firefighters

Firefighters have rescued a horse after it got stuck in a water-filled dyke.

The animal became stranded on a farm in Westmarsh, outside Canterbury at 16.23 yesterday.

Crews with specialist animal rescue and water safety skills were called and built a ramp out of the water using farm machinery with the help of a farmer.

The horse, which measured 16.3 hands or 1.65 metres, had been led to safety by 6.57pm.
