Firefighters tackle kitchen blaze in Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury after pan of oil caught alight

Firefighters have warned people not to leave cooking unattended after a pan of oil caught alight.

Crews were called to the kitchen blaze in Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury, at about 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday).

Two fire engines attended, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished flames on the hob using hose reel jets within half an hour.

No injuries were reported and it is believed to have started accidentally.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has now issued the following advice: “It is important to take care extra care in the kitchen and to keep cooking areas clean and clear of anything which could catch alight.

“Remember not to leave cooking unattended, and make sure you switch it off if you have to leave the room.”
