Canterbury man arrested after footage shows knife being pulled in Whitstable

Disturbing footage has emerged of a man allegedly pulling a knife during a late night fracas on the streets of Whitstable.

The teenager is seen marching out of an alleyway next the town’s Umbrella Centre in Oxford Street.

Door staff from another venue follow him, at which point someone from the melee of people in the road shouts “he’s got a blade”.

Footage captured on a guard's body-worn video equipment shows the man in a white t-shirt reach into his trousers and apparently produce a knife with a 3in-blade as he paces around the centre of the road with it in his right hand.

Door staff then tackle the man to the floor and restrain him until police arrive.

He is believed to have dropped the weapon before it was either removed or kicked away by other people in the group.

Police confirmed they had been called to Oxford Street, Whitstable, at 12.10am on Sunday.

They arrested a 19-year-old man from Canterbury on suspicion of affray. No knife was found and no injuries were reported.

The arrested man has been released pending further enquiries.
