Canterbury: Police search for missing child in Wincheap

Police have stopped their major search for a 'missing toddler' who was reportedly seen wandering along a busy road.

The lone child, thought to be about two years old, was said to have been spotted on the A28 in Thanington, Canterbury.

But after carrying out house-to-house inquiries and conducting a thorough search of the area, the search ended after no unaccompanied child was located.

Patrol cars were seen travelling up Wincheap towards Chartham, and a helicopter was hovering overhead.

They went to the Thanington Neighbourhood Resource Centre at about 10.30am to ask staff if they had seen a missing child, and searched the play area.

A police spokesman said: "At 10.12am Kent Police received a single report of concern for a young girl who was reported to have been unaccompanied in the Thanington area of Canterbury.

"There have been no reports of any missing children in the area."
