A homeless man has appeared in court charged with robbery at the Stilwell jeweller’s in Canterbury earlier this month.

Stephen Baker, 44, is accused of holding staff up in the Burgate shop on November 3 and stealing jewellery worth £40,000.

Baker, who was arrested in Sidcup, is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear at Canterbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 5.
