An air ambulance was scrambled to Herne Bay this evening after a car careered off the road on a busy roundabout.

A man had to be cut free from the mangled wreckage of his silver Peugeot after the crash between Canterbury Road and the Old Thanet Way at 5.10pm.

The surrounding roads were shut off for more than an hour as six police cars, two fire engines, three ambulances and the air ambulance joined the rescue effort.

Firefighters cut the roof off the car to free the man, who was then taken to hospital for treatment.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident, which happened just 400 yards from where a biker was killed in a smash with a car on Thursday night.
