Inquest opens into death of 23-year-old man electrocuted on tracks at Canterbury East Railway Station

An inquest has opened into the death of a 23-year-old man who was electrocuted on a railway.

Police were called just after 4am on Sunday, March 15 to reports of someone on the tracks at Canterbury East Railway Station.

The fire service, paramedics and Network Rail also attended and found a man lying on the railway - including the conductor rail.

Later identified as William Israel, a post mortem revealed he died as a result of electrocution.

Mr Israel worked as a 'play leader' and lived in Westminster.

Assistant coroner for central and south east Kent, Scott Matthewson, adjourned the full inquest until June 23.
