Man falls from city wall in Canterbury

A man was taken to hospital after falling from the city wall in Canterbury near a popular nightclub.

Police and paramedics were called to the A28 Pin Hill at 2.35am on Sunday.

The section of the ring-road between Old Dover Road (Riding Gate Roundabout) to A290 Rheims Way (Wincheap Roundabout) was shut in both directions.

The air ambulance is also understood to have been called as a precaution but was not needed.

The city wall is about 20ft high at some points.

A resident posting on Facebook said they heard a helicopter flying low over their house at about 3am, with another saying it landed at the city's bus station.

Another said: "Lots of police and ambulance service opposite chem [Club Chemistry] by the city wall."

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police attended Pin Hill, Canterbury, at 2.35am on Sunday following a report that a man had fallen from the city wall.

"Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the man was taken to a local hospital."

His injuries are understood not to have been life-threatening.
