A pensioner was found dead in his home after neighbours were alerted by the barking of his dog.

The man, in his mid 60s, was found at his flat in Sommerville Close, Faversham, just before noon on Monday.

Police spokesman Pippa Taylor said: “We were contacted by a member of the public at 11.45am whose attention had been gained by a barking dog.

“Officers had to force the door to gain entry to the property, where they found a man deceased. But his death is not being treated as suspicious.

“We also contacted the RSPCA to attend to the dog, which was taken away.”

The death has now been reported to the South Kent coroner and a post mortem is due to take place today, and an inquest is expected to be opened next week.
