Lily Houston gets tattoo of Canterbury after falling in love with city

A graduate says she has no regrets after getting a bold tattoo of Canterbury inked on her leg.

Lily Houston, 22, decided to commemorate her love for the area by having a design of the Cathedral and a city road map drawn up.

Enclosed in a hot air balloon and surrounded by clouds, the vibrant city illustrations will now be forever etched on the former student's thigh.

Lily, who lives in Manchester but studied at Canterbury Christ Church University for three years, said: "I know people will either love it or hate it, but I don't really care what they think as it is my body.

"I absolutely love Canterbury - it's a charming and an amazing little city which holds a lot of great memories for me.

"It is a lot different to Manchester and I have come here each summer for 22 years, it's a special place."

The former journalism student, who is no stranger to the ink needle, met her partner and best friend while studying in Kent.

She continued: "I'm not exactly sure what part of Canterbury the map shows but I like it.

"The day I moved in at university, a hot air balloon was above the city. And then the day that I left, there was another one in the sky.

"That's why I got the idea of having one included.
