Heavy traffic in Canterbury as a result of A2 fuel spill

Roads around Canterbury were gridlocked this evening, with motorists reporting there was "no way out of the city".

Drivers were stuck in a standstill on New Dover Road, Old Dover Road and the A2, as well as further closer to the city centre on the ring-road.

The clean-up operation for this morning's fuel spillage on the A2 was the main cause of the traffic woes.

The dual carriageway was shut coastbound between Canterbury and Bishopsbourne for the majority of the day.

It eventually reopened at about 7.30pm.

Due to A2 the closure, there was increased traffic in the surrounding villages of Bridge and Bekesbourne.
