Police officers 'risk lives' saving woman from train tracks at Canterbury West station

Police officers have "risked their own lives" to save a vulnerable teenager who wandered onto a train line in the early hours.

British Transport Police (BTP) was called to reports of a distressed woman in her late teens on the tracks at Canterbury West.

Officers from BTP and Kent Police quickly rushed to her aid at about 4.50am on Saturday in the "dangerous environment" - with the tracks still live.

BTP tweeted: "Officers went track side risking their own lives to save her.

"She is now receiving the help she needs and is safe and well."

A BTP spokesman said the woman had begun walking down the tracks, so officers were also forced to go alongside the live rail line.

No trains were running at the time.
