Despite initial plans to open last autumn, business owner Aaron Murrell said in January that unforeseen circumstances had led to setbacks, but promised the eatery would be serving up wings in the city before the year was up.

And now the long-awaited opening date has been announced, with customers in Kent soon being able to sample the food that has won Wing Kingz celebrity fans at its Milton Keynes restaurant, including Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney and former Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli.

“We're ready to go, we're keen to get Canterbury open,” said Mr Murrell.

“Obviously it's our first franchise store so we own the brand and we've got the one in Milton Keynes.

“This will be the second store but the first owned by franchisees - some fantastic people from the local area.”

Boasting four different types of wings – vegan, boneless, grilled and buttermilk – there are 10 different flavours and five size options alongside 12 dipping sauces.

For those not a fan of wings, menu highlights include burgers, wraps, nachos and sundaes.

Meanwhile, promotions include all-you-can-eat Wing Wednesday, and the ‘Earn your Wings’ challenge – a hot wing challenge so spicy it comes with a waiver.

The restaurant will be open between midday and 10pm in the week and will remain open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Wing Kingz will be able to serve alcohol following licensing permission granted by Canterbury City Council.

Born in Milton Keynes in 2021, this will be the restaurant’s first venture outside of its home city.

Mr Murrell was tight-lipped about whether any of Wing Kingz’s big-name fans, which also include former Man City player Mario Balotelli and Watford striker Troy Deeney, could make an appearance at the grand opening.

Speaking about who might attend the unveiling, he said: “This is a top secret. I'm sure you will be seeing some familiar faces – but, most importantly, key people of the community of Canterbury.”

The arrival of Wing Kingz comes within months of the grand opening of Matches Sports and Social Bar in Butchery Lane.
