Proud day as city honours its true heroes

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Thousands of supporters lined the streets of Canterbury on Sunday to warmly welcome the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as they proudly marched through the city centre to mark the Battalion's homecoming and granting of the Freedom of the City.

People cheered, applauded and waved flags in appreciation of the 600 soldiers who have recently returned from a dangerous tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The Colonel in Chief of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, Lt Gen Andrew Graham, received the Freedom scroll from the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Carolyn Parry who said the city admired the courage of the Battalion which had earned its respect and friendship.

A thanksgiving service, led by the Dean of Canterbury, the Very Rev Robert Willis, was held in the Cathedral after the parade.
