Pupils' sporting fun through MOVE

Forget 2012 - the Olympics came to Canterbury when pupils from St Nicholas School took part in a number of activities.

It was all part of national MOVE week at the school, which looks after children with severe mobility disabilities, to encourage more group participation between pupils and staff.

MOVE is a national charity promoting activity-based programmes to improve sitting, standing and walking, with the aim of extending people’s health, quality of life and independence.

Younger pupils took part in a series of circle games, older ones competed in their own MOVE Olympics, while sixth formers ran their own dance-athon.

Paralympic shooter Nathan Milgate, from Herne Bay, who competed at this year’s Beijing games, was among the special guests.

Assistant head teacher and MOVE volunteer Stephen King said: “All staff and students got themselves into the spirit and were very motivated.

“Our families helped raise £101 for the MOVE charity as well.”
