Ben Brown will make his debut for Faversham in their Ryman League, Division 1 South derby at Whitstable on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Herne Bay midfielder signed on Tuesday night, initially for a month.

Boss Ray Turner (pictured) said: "I have kept an eye on Ben since he played against us in the under-18s. He is very good on the ball and the sort of player who can do a good job for us. He also had experience of playing in the Ryman Premier with Ramsgate."

Skipper Tom Hickman could return for the game at Belmont after Turner gave him 10 days off to rest a foot injury which saw him miss the 3-0 FA Cup defeat at another Premier side, Carshalton Athletic, on Saturday.

Turner said: "Tom has been struggling for a couple of weeks with bruising to his foot and heel, so I took the decision to rest him, but he should be all right for the weekend."

Brown’s namesake and former Bay team-mate, Simon, is troubled by a similar problem and was forced to watch the game from the bench after pulling up in the warm-up at Colston Avenue.

Former Whitstable player Turner is refusing to take the Oystermen lightly, despite their dip in form after winning their opening two matches of the season.

He said: "Peter (Nott), Steve Nolan and Paul Hyde will have them fired up and well organised. I am not taking too much notice about their form. We have played well in patches, but need to be more consistent."
