Blean crash near Canterbury leaves gas main damaged as repairs start

Engineers are trying to fix a gas main today after a car left the road and smashed into school gates.

Police were called to the accident outside Blean Primary School, near Canterbury, just before 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.

The car - a silver Peugeot - had hit railings outside the school and damaged gas network equipment, sparking a leak.

The driver was unharmed, but the road had to be closed for several hours and the car is still at the scene today.

It had crashed into a piece of equipment called a governor, which regulates gas pressure.

It is not believed any homes had to be evacuated and the road was reopened by the evening.
