Arrests after burglary near Denton Lane, Canterbury

Three young men have been arrested after police seized a number of roof tiles that are believed to have been stolen from a house on the outskirts of Canterbury.

Officers were called to a home near Denton Lane in Denton at about 5pm yesterday after reports people had been seen taking tiles from its roof and loading them into a van.

It is believed the suspects broke the building's back door to access its loft.

Following a search of the area, police stopped a van matching eyewitness descriptions in Knight Avenue, Canterbury.

They seized a number of tiles from it as well as suspected cannabis.

Two men from Canterbury, aged 22 and 23, as well as a 19-year-old from Dover, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The teenager was also held on suspicion of possessing cannabis.

All three remain in custody.

DC Robert Goodban said: "We’ve yet to recover all the missing roof tiles following this burglary and would appeal to anyone with information or who’s been approached with tiles for sale since yesterday to call us on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/38549/19.

"We would also take this opportunity to remind those people living in rural areas to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious immediately by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress."
