Simon Langton Girls School choir to sing in Canterbury with Royal Wedding choir performed for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

A choir from the Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School has been picked by royal wedding gospel singers to perform at their Canterbury show.

The Kingdom Choir gave a memorable performance of Stand By Me at the wedding of HRH Prince Harry and the Duchess Of Sussex last May.

Earlier this year, they launched a national search for children’s and youth choirs to perform with them at each venue of their debut UK tour.

Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School Senior Choir has been chosen to sing with the gospel stars, when take to the stage at The Marlowe on May 27.

The school’s director of music Simon Burvill said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen to perform with the Kingdom Choir. It is an amazing opportunity to be able to sing alongside such a fantastic choir in one of the South East’s largest theatres."

The performance forms part of The Kingdom Choir's 18-date UK tour - including a show at London's Royal Albert Hall, a year to the day of the royal wedding at St George’s Chapel.

The Kingdom Choir conductor Karen Gibson said: “We had such an amazing experience to be part of the Royal wedding, and we have been truly inspired by everything that has happened to us during this past year.

“It’s been tough to choose the choirs, but so lovely to see so many singing communities out there. From personal experience, I know what singing can do for a person, so sharing that with young people across the country is a really special thing for us. I hope we can make a real impact and inspire a new generation of singers.”

The Kingdom Choir was founded in 1994 by conductor Karen Gibson. Its singers, from in and around London, draw from various Christian traditions and aim to create "a sound that demonstrates the community they share" through energetic and enthusiastic performances.

Before performing in front of almost two billion people at the royal wedding, the largest audience the group had performed to was just 200 people.

Tickets to the Canterbury performance are on sale now from www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
