Shop assistant threatened by man claiming he had a gun

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at a Canterbury newsagents after a woman shop assistant was threatened by a man who claimed he had a gun.

It happened at Northgate News shortly before 7pm on May 8 when a man demanded money and began unzipping his jacket.

But he ran off when the assistant refused to hand over any cash and shouted for help.

Officers have only just released the details, almost three weeks after the incident.

The offender is said to be white, aged 45 to 50, 5ft 6ins tall, slimly-built and was wearing a blue hat, sunglasses and a navy jacket and trousers.
