A performance of a major West End play in Kent has been cancelled for the third time in as many days.

Bosses from the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury revealed that today's matinee showing of Dreamgirls has been scrapped due to cast illness.

They stress performances of the musical are still set to go ahead between this evening and Saturday, the final night of its 12-day run.

This comes after Tuesday's performance was cancelled amid "cast indisposition", prompting one punter to take to Facebook to say the news left her on the verge of tears.

"We have tickets for tonight as it's our wedding anniversary," she explained.

"I could actually cry right now.

"We had our tickets cancelled last time due to the pandemic - I don't think it's meant to be."

Yesterday's show was then called off due to an illness among the actors.

The Marlowe is offering refunds to those who had already purchased tickets for the scrapped performances.

The theatre also says customers will be "able to rebook to see this fantastic show on another date".

A spokesman for the venue said today (Thursday): "We are very sorry to announce that today’s matinee of Dreamgirls has been cancelled due to cast illness.

"This evening’s performance will go ahead as planned and tickets are available, with shows also scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday.

"We appreciate your understanding throughout this."
