Soldier dies in Iraq shooting incident

A soldier from the Kent-recruited Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment has died in Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence says the member of the regiment’s 1st battalion died in Basra during a shooting incident in the early hours of Thursday at the Contingency Operating Base.

The circumstances surrounding the death are still being investigated.

Next of kin have been informed.

The regiment, known as The Tigers, has its ceremonial headquarters at Howe Barracks, Canterbury, and a Territorial Army base at the city’s Leros Barracks.

1 PWRR is an armoured infantry battalion, known as the Armoured Tigers.
