Stone-throwing vandal shatters bus windscreen

POLICE have condemned a "mindless vandal" who shattered a bus windscreen with a stone on the A2 today.

It happened as the Stagecoach single decker was travelling past Patrixbourne, near Canterbury, shortly after 8am.

The driver saw two schoolboys in dark uniforms hiding in bushes beside the carriageway near the Bridge slip road.

The vehicle was travelling at about 50mph when the windscreen was shattered.

Neither the driver nor his passengers suffered any injury and he was able to continue the journey to the Olde Gate Inn in New Dover Road where they were transferred to another vehicle.

A police spokesman said: "This mindless act of vandalism was stupid beyond belief. It is staggering that anyone could think of doing such a thing and not consider the potentially lethal outcome."

Anyone who can help identify the schoolboys should contact Det Sgt Curtis Hogben on 01227 762055 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 088 555 111.
