A pub’s decision to hold a Patrick Swayze tribute night just days after the Dirty Dancing star died of cancer has sparked an Internet row.

The Queen Vic in Herne Bay High Street has been accused of cashing in on the 57-year-old’s death with a theme night tomorrow (Friday) .

But landlady Jacqui Green says she was a massive fan of the late Hollywood star and only wants to celebrate his life.

She said: “To say we’re cashing in is ridiculous.

“I loved Patrick Swayze to bits. I adored him. I’ve actually lost count of the number of times I’ve watched Dirty Dancing.

“When I found out he had died I thought what better way to remember him than with a theme night.

“We’ll all get dressed up, listen to music from his films and have a great time.”

Heartthrob Swayze, famous for iconic films Dirty Dancing and Ghost, lost an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday .

A row broke out after Jacqui advertised the tribute night on internet socialising site Facebook the following day.

Angry Swayze fan Vicky Nye wrote: “He’s not even buried yet and you’re cashing in - disgusting.”

But her view was not shared by others on the site.

Chrissie Guida replied: “Get a life love. What’s everyone meant to do? Go into mourning over someone they never met? I think it’s a nice idea. Dirty Dancing was a classic film.”

Agreeing, Claire Hards wrote: “So right Chrissie. It has absolutely nothing to do with cashing in. It’s about celebrating such a talented man’s life in a good way, and we have every right to do that.”

But despite obvious support for the night, Vicky retorted: “Oh my god, bunch of saddos. I’m not going into mourning, but he’s not even cold yet and people are going to do things like this. At least bury the poor guy.

“What about Keith Floyd? He died this week. Are you going to hold a food and wine night? Doubt it.”

Standing firm, Jacqui said: “I’m sorry we offended Vicky, but we always have a disco on a Friday night and thought why not celebrate a great man’s life?”
