One of the finest young violinists in the country is to give a concert in Canterbury in aid of Save the Children.

Jennifer Pike was the youngest winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year competition at the age of 12 in 2002.

She is performing in the Shirley Hall, King’s School, on Saturday, July 12, at 7.30pm.

Jennifer is now widely regarded as one of the finest violinists in Britain and for her Canterbury recital she will be accompanied on the piano by her father Jeremy.

Also appearing will be Faversham pianist Sophie Dee, 14, who won the Kent Young Pianist of the Year in 2002 and 2006 and in October, last year, was awarded jointly the Marlowe Young Musician of the Year title.

This year the branch is also holding a buffet dinner in the dining hall of King’s School after the concert. Tickets are £18 per person, including a glass of wine.

Tickets for the concert are £12 stalls, £15 balcony, from the Marlowe Theatre box office on 01227 787787, The Classical Longplayer in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury or Andrea Russo, on 01227 711950 or by email at andrea@russo17.freeserve.co.uk
