Huge fire at log processing yard in Chartham Hatch

Around 20 firefighters tackled a huge blaze which set fire to hundreds of bins of logs and apples last night.

At its height, four fire engines, a bulk water carrier and four fire crews fought the fire at the processing yard in Chartham Hatch.

The owner helped, using a forklift truck to move unburnt log bins away from the flames.

Tractors were also moved using a specialist winch, and the log stack was allowed to burn out under control conditions.

It came after the control centre was alerted to the fire in Howfields Lane at around 8.50pm.

It's not thought anyone was hurt.
