The crash in Preston this morning

Two people have been taken to hospital after a lorry crashed with a bus this morning in a Canterbury village.

Police and ambulance crews were called to The Street, in Preston, at 9.40am after the vehicles hit one another on a narrow section of road.

The lorry driver and a female bus driver were taken to QEQM Hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.

The bus driver was trapped in her vehicle after the crash and had to be helped out by firefighters also called to the scene.

The crash will heighten calls for lorries to stop travelling through the village after concerns from residents in Preston and Wingham.

Kent Police spokesman Adam Westgarth said: "Both drivers were reported to have sustained minor injuries and the road was blocked as a result of the collision.

"The bus company and the owners of the lorry have agreed to recover their respective vehicles."

The area was cleared around noon.
