Bosses at the water company say works started yesterday and they anticipate the traffic lights will be removed by Friday.

Andy Beston, South East Water’s regional network manager, apologised to anyone impacted by the temporary, two-way traffic lights.

“Our team is carrying out an urgent leak repair and the lights are in place to help keep traffic flowing while ensuring we can work safely," he said.

“Unfortunately, leaks and bursts like this do occur on our network of underground pipes, which spans more than 9,000 miles.

“Customers can keep up to date with work across our network by visiting our interactive map."

Drivers on the A2 are also facing delays after a water main burst.

One lane in both directions of the route between Faversham and Canterbury is shut by South East Water as a result.

A spokesperson told KentOnline yesterday that although teams had fixed a section of the damaged pipe on the A2, they were investigating further leaks nearby and drivers should expect delays until Friday.
