Suspected arson attack in Hollowmede in Canterbury after wheelie bin fire

A wheelie bin was set alight in a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters were called to a block of flats in Hollowmede in Wincheap, Canterbury last night after the blaze was reported just before 1am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire, near Wincheap Primary School, was "believed to have been started deliberately".

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews used a hose reel jet to bring flames under control.

The blaze was extinguished by 1.08am and no one is believed to have been injured.

Police are investigating whether the fire is linked to two similar incidents in the same street in recent months.

A police spokesman said: "The fire is being treated as suspicious and officers are carrying out enquiries to determine whether this incident is linked to similar reports in the same street on Thursday October 18 and Monday September 3."
